Guess I let you get the best of me.

So it's been an interesting day. I've spent a few hours making a playlist for this epic drama of a plot bunny, and earlier I broke my LJ with
xenokattz again. She noted that we had only done this 3 times and well, clearly that had to be remedied. Make this broken LJ 4.
We also created the Broken Down LJ cocktail. Which, had I any rum, would be made of yum. (HA! I rhymed.) Oh, why is the rum always gone? [/bad Jack Sparrow joke.]
And then I had fun with the playlist thing. I even put the songs in some kind of chronological order! Go me.
1.) Hotel California, Eagles:
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
but you can never leave."
This might not actually fit or make sense, but I love it and wanted it, so there. It's appropriately melancholy-sounding. I love the guitar.
2.) Crashed, Daughtry:
Somehow, I couldn't stop myself.
I just wanted to know how it felt.
Too strong, I couldn't hold on.
Yeah, yeah.
Now I'm just tryin' to make some sense
Out of how and why this happened.
Where we're heading, there's just no knowing...
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.
3.) I am a Rock, Simon and Garfunkel:
First of all, I love the line "in a deep and dark december" and "gazing from my window to the streets below / on a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow." But mostly, this:
I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
It screamed Bruce, but it could also work as an after-it-ends song. There must be Simon and Garfunkel, I feel.
4.) Devil in the Details, Bright Eyes:
And I know the cost
And I wanna stop
But I can't do it
I just can't do it
There was love I meant
There were accidents
So tell me which is which.
(Thank you,
likeadeuce!) Also, if anyone has a copy of this, I would be be very grateful!)
5.) Let Go, Frou Frou:
It gains the more it gives
And then it rises with the fall
So hand me that remote
Can't you see that all that stuff's essential?
Such boundless pleasure
We've no time for later...
It's all right
Cause there's beauty in the breakdown.
6.) Angry, Matchbox 20:
I'm not angry, it's never been enough.
It gets inside and it tears you up.
I'm not angry, but I've never been above it.
You see through me, don't you?
Oh, Bruce. You're so emotionally damaged.
7.) Fur Elise, Beethoven:
Because it started playing randomly and I realized that Richard is a very talented piano player, although he doesn't admit to it very often. Far too many holiday parties where his mother made him wear a clip-on tie and play in front of people he didn't know. But Bruce likes Beethoven.
Also, because the mention of this made
xenokattz's brain shut down.
8.) Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol:
I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Because Bruce is not so good with words.
9.) Long Day, Matchbox 20:
I'm sorry about the attitude
I need to give when I'm with you
But no one else would take this shit from me.
And I'm so terrified of no one else but me
I'm here all the time.
I won't go away...
So reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always, ain't that right.
I love how bitter Rob Thomas sounds, so even if the words aren't quite perfectly Bruce, the bitter/angry tone is. Also, a makeshift way of saying "I know I'm a jerk, forgive me."
10.)Songbird, Eva Cassidy:
And the songbirds keep singing like they know the score.
And I love you I love you I love you
Like never before.
I know, the lovey-dovey lyrics seem wrong, but the music is so wistful that it works. Also, makes me think of Love Actually and the scene it plays in and oh. A moment before it all starts to fall apart.
11.) Hazy Shade of Winter, Simon and Garfunkel:
Won't you stop and remember me
At any convenient time
Funny how my memory slips while looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme
Drinking my vodka and lime
But look around, leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
I REALLY wanted to include "Hazy Shade of Winter" because I LOVE that phrase and think it would make an awesome title for something. (Plus, it has
xenokattz's lime.)
12.) Hold Me, Savage Garden:
Hey, more than angry words I hate this silence
It's getting so loud
Well I want to scream
But bitterness has silenced these emotions
It's getting hard to breathe.
13.) What About Now?, Daughtry:
Shadows fill an empty heart
As love is fading,
From all the things that we are
But are not saying.
Can we see beyond the scars
And make it to the dawn?
14.) A Thousand Words, Savage Garden:
We stumble in a tangled web,
decaying friendships almost died
And hide behind a mask of lies.
We twist and turn and we aviod,
all hope of salvage now devoid.
15.) Gone, Daughtry
Feeling overwhelmed, I take a dive
To a once overfilled but now empty place to hide.
The day you turned on me is the day I died,
And I've forgotten what it's like,
And how it feels to be alive...
Every time I see the light not burning on the porch,
I say I thought you would be home.
You said you never would be gone,
But you are.
You are.
16.) Still Hurting, The Last Five Years:
Go and hide and run away
Run away, run and find something better
Go and ride the sun away
Run away like it's simple
Like it's right...
Covered with scars I did nothing to earn
Maybe there's somewhere a lesson to learn
But that wouldn't change the fact
That wouldn't speed the time
Once the foundation's cracked
And I'm
Still Hurting.
Ignore the "Jamie"s and the fact that he was cheating and lying before he left, and it works. ;) I love this song so much; her voice is so moving, and the heartbreak is something tactile.
17.) Over You by Daughtry:
Now that it's all said and done,
I can't believe you were the one
To build me up and tear me down,
Like an old abandoned house.
What you said when you left
Just left me cold and out of breath.
I fell too far, was in way too deep.
Guess I let you get the best of me.
Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together.
'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.
You took a hammer to these walls,
Dragged the memories down the hall,
Packed your bags and walked away.
There was nothing I could say.
And when you slammed the front door shut,
A lot of others opened up,
So did my eyes so I could see
That you never were the best for me.
Possibly THE song for this pairing, after-the-fact, from Richard's POV. I have great love for this song.
18.) Hallelujah, Rufus Wainwright:
Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever
Learned from love
Was how to shoot
At someone
Who outdrew you
It's not a cry
You can hear at night
It's not somebody
Who's seen the light
It's a cold and
It's a broken Hallelujah.
19.) Both Sides Now, Joni Mitchell:
I've looked at love from both sides now,
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall.
I really don't know love at all.
And with that, it's time for bed. That was fun, though.
Have a Happy New Years, everyone! :)
Also, I would have made a pretty banner-type cd-cover thingy for this, but I'm not feeling very talented in Photoshop. ::Sigh:: If anyone felt like playing with pictures of James Marsden and Christian Bale, though... :) I will be working on an image for this epic, after all.
