A Leo Hufflepuff? Oh, yes.

Hmm. I am solidly a Leo, being born August 12th, but... Meh on my sign sometimes.

LEO
(July 23 - August 22)
The Lion. Fixed, fire, yang - planetary ruler: the Sun. Keywords: "I WILL"

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and rules the back, the spine, and the heart. Positive traits include creativity, charisma, generosity, warmth, enthusiasm, a natural talent for leadership, and a great deal of inner power; negative traits are haughtiness, snobbery, an expectation that one is the centre of attention and should be waited on by everyone else, profligacy, lack of realism, dominance that can lead to bullying, and a refusal to change one's mind even in the face of solid facts.

I feel like the positive traits fit me just fine, even if I dislike leadership. But.. the negatives? In all honesty, I don't see them. Hit me over the head and tell me why I'm wrong, but... I have a hell of a lot of negative traits, I know, but... not those, necesarily.

Hufflepuff

Although this might seem like a strange sign for Hufflepuffs, Hufflepuff Leos do exist. Many become the prefects of their House when they reach the proper age, for they are good with other people, have a fine sense of initiative, and have the nobility of spirit to see that the right thing gets done at all times. They like to set a good example for others - the phrase "noblesse oblige" probably sums it up well (nobility imposes obligation). Generous to a fault, they will give everything they have (be it money, energy, or loyalty) to anyone who needs it.

Harry Potter Astrology

That being the coolness I wanted to share. :) Hee... I am a contradiction! But... yeah, THAT seems fitting. =P Heh. Girls who know me in RL? Whatcha think?

No movie for me. Too difficult to be online and watching at once. The movie trumps the internet. ;)

Am finding some marvelous fic out there. Weee! Completely unproductive tonight. Ugh.

Leo's are attention hogs. ;P

Just like Cancer's are emotional nutcases. ^_^

Haha, the thing is, I'm more often an emotional nutcase than an attention hog. I'm not all that fond of attention!

Well, I'm terribly humble about it, if I am the center of attention. Like... scalp turning red embarrassed.

I'm a bad lion sometimes. ;)

Hee. This is why I put Cedric's rising sign as Leo. It's more how he seems than how he is. :-) Given his birthday had to be before Oct. 31st, he could be only Virgo, Libra or Scorpio as a sunsign. I almost made him Scorpio, but that's not right. Scorpio's got an edge that he doesn't have, and Virgo ... just no. Virgo MOON yes, Virgo sun -- no. That leaves Libra, which can be a lazy sign (I should know; I am one), but offsetting that with Virgo moon gives it the drive it doesn't otherwise have (my mother was that combo and she worked her tail off), plus add the Leo rising, and it would work as a champion's combo. I love all the thought you put into this. It's fantastic, and the kind of details *I* find really intriguing and interesting, but that a lot of authors (especially fanfic authors, it seems) don't take the time for.

That being said, I don't know much about astrology beyond the sun signs everyone knows. I'd be interested to find out my rising sign and moon... Huh.

:)

You can go here and have your chart run for free. You'll need to know both your birthplace AND your birthtime, in order to get an accurate rising sign.

And I have a lot of fun with the details, in characters. (G) I don't ever figure a full chart for a character (it's impossible with a fictional person), but I do like to have some idea of some basics. I find astronomy a VERY useful set of symbols to think of people, psychologically, regardless of whether or not one believes it. (I do, but even if one doesn't, it's still useful.)

A Leo Rising would give Cedric some of the characteristics of Leo, but it would be more "other perceived" than 'felt' by him. He would feel to himself like a Leo, but he'd be perceived as one by others, especially those who don't know him well. And that really seemed to fit. Very imposing, perhaps a bit intimidating, but not necessarily aggressive. Leo Rising really is the lion of the zodiac in self-presentation. Depending on their moon and sun signs, they can be extremely generous. Leo is funny. They're often extremely gracious winners, quick to acknowledge everyone who's helped them. (This is true, also, btw for personal planets in Leo.) But they like to be admired. (g) And if they're NOT, they can get ... petulant. (I say this as someone with a Venus *and* Mars in Leo, so I don't have it rising, but I have a Leo flavor to my self-presentation, almost like Leo Rising -- and my son is Leo Rising.) Although it didn't come from the book, I'm reminded of Cedric in the film, surrounded on that bench by admirers when Harry came to talk to him. That was SO Leo. LOL! If not necessarily the best side of Leo. ;> But because it's only Rising, it's not the basic part of his personality. He's a Libra at heart, and Libras are among the sweetest by nature of the Zodiac signs. They can be lazy gits. (g) But unless there's something else about their charts, these are the people that EVERYone likes -- which also fits with Cedric.

Ack! Sometimes typos say the opposite of what you mean:

He would feel to himself like a Leo, but he'd be perceived as one by others...

He would NOT feel to himself like a Leo ...!

haha, yes, and sometimes typos aren't even noticed and the reader wonders what game her eyes are playing on her. ;)

I do like astronomy, especially (as you said) for psychological purposes. :) I really think there is something to be said for it.

As far as details go, I enjoy them so much I sometimes don't get past them to the actual writing. Which can be disappointing, but is generally just fun for me. ;)

They're often extremely gracious winners, quick to acknowledge everyone who's helped them. (This is true, also, btw for personal planets in Leo.)

Oh, and HOW. I've been scolded for this, actually. Usually by friends or family who just want me to take credit where credit is due, and stop thanking them for whatever they might have done. =)

But they like to be admired. (g) And if they're NOT, they can get ... petulant.

...Also true. If silently. Silent fuming and holding back resentment? I'm very good at that. =P Not proud, mind you, but very good. My roommate and I get along very well, because we both do this and can recognize it in the other.

Thank you for the link! Definitely checking that out...

Absolutely. Leos are nothing if not masters of passive aggressive behavior. LOL! Well, at least in that. Most of them know they really SHOULDN'T be so touchy ... but they are. (wide grin) Putting a positive spin on it, I tend to see this really as a matter of giving and receiving love. Leos tend to be affectionate by nature, especially sun-sign Leos. Not necessarily demonstrative ... but not uncommonly that, too. They're a fire sign. That's PART of why they like to acknowledge the help and assistance of others when they do well/win/whatever. They tend to be very aware of the devotion of others -- and will give it back in equal measure. So if they DON'T receive it, that hurts.

Leo isn't really after fame, not for itself. (That's Capricorn.) Leo is after love and attention/devotion. It's entirely possible for a Leo to be content with the love and devotion of her/his family alone. For instance, the stay-at-home mom who's adored by her husband and children, and thanked for what she does ... that's a happy Leo. And that's why I think it perfectly possible for a Leo to be a good Hufflepuff. (I actually have a much harder time seeing a Capricorn Hufflepuff, or -- especially -- Aquarius. Aquarius seems to me to be the quintessential Ravenclaw.)

There is no sadder thing than a lonely, unappreciated and ignored Leo. The arena of the appreciation is less important than having it. ;>

Oh, that is... scarily accurate. ;)

And quite a bit of fun.

Darlin, I think this describes you perfectly (the Hufflepuff Leo, not the straight up Leo). It really is uncanny. you are great with people, you have wonderful nobility of spirit, you are a great example and have a very generous soul. It all fits. Your Hufflepuff nature balances out your Loe birthdate perfectly. :)

Aww, thank you hon!! =D I adore the fact that we are yin and yang. I think that's fantastic.
