So no call to sub today, which is fine except I realized my paycheck Friday will be for one day, thanks to vacation. Ugh. Also, the only new job posted today was for hall monitors in Bangor. Um. Not so much.

But this means I can play with the memes I wanted to last night! Not tagged, so stealing from various and sundry. Also, whoever wants can play--not tagging for fear of leaving someone out. ;)

Meme the First: Top Five Favorite Fics I've Written (in no particular order)

Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. this isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

I can so get into a little self-pimping.

The Smell of Smoke, DCU, Roy Harper. Also on my website.

Yeah, I know, it's the one I *just* posted, but it's also my first attempt at comicverse fic and it's about a character that I didn't know much about a month ago. The Roy-love kind of attacked me and I'm rolling with it. This started as a segment in what was going to be a five-things story, and then it was its own entity and don't you love when that happens? I also adore the quote I found for the beginning that gave me the title which I think fits in a way most of my titles don't. But re-reading it kind of leaves me a little emotionally sucker-punched and I'm really pleased with the changes I made to the end that only [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan might notice. But *I* notice and I go "yeah, good choice there!" Also, the really, really great feedback might make me fond of it, too. ;)

Lives By Breaking, Narnia, the Pevensies, for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide 2006. Again, at my website.

The response and the reccing this got did floor me, although (at the risk of sounding conceited), I love this fic. I started with the poem (which is sort of backward for how I tend to work) and I love that I got to use it. I tried a new style and I loved writing it this way. There were a few segments I had to cut out, but I think it worked out better in the end. I had the two Peter segments written first and then had flowcharts and notes about how to manage two segments for each Pevensie. I got to use a LOT of plot bunnies that I had resigned myself to not ever writing because I couldn't figure out how to write a whole fic about them. It was fun, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. It also makes me go "guh!" and I like the symmetry.

Believe, Harry Potter, Ernie MacMillan and the Fat Friar. On my website.

This fic was written for [livejournal.com profile] omniocular's January 2006 challenge, which was a character roulette in which I drew Ernie and the Fat Friar. And then I angsted over it all month, because I had no idea what to do with them--I kept having this compulsion to tackle religion in the wizarding world and I did not want to open that can of worms. But in the end, it sort of wrote itself and I couldn't not address Ernie's grief and the Friar's religion and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I mean, when I set it post-GoF, it occured to me that Ernie is 14 and that is the age I was taking Confirmation at church. I got to draw on some of that, and the emotional turmoil that is being 14, and I'm pleased with it. And rereading it since my friend Katharine died, it feels even more right, especially the last sentence. If I didn't love it enough before, I love it more now. Also, significant for being the first fic I wrote in present tense, which I still claim not to do very often but (looking at this list) obviously I'm lying to myself about that.

Insomnia, RENT, Mark and Roger. At the website.

[livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan wrote Roger's dialogue and helped me choreograph, and we had spent a LOT of time discussing Roger's time in withdrawal. I like this story because it's Mark and Roger, who are best friends in the way that they're brothers and it's Mark at a breaking point, saying things he wouldn't normally say. It's not happy and it's not pretty and it's not remotely okay. But the months leading up to "December 24th, 9 pm, Eastern Standard Time" probably weren't any of those things. I think this sums it up: Lately, even the tamest of conversations with Roger is difficult. Mark is sick of walking on eggshells to avoid Roger’s anger. It doesn’t matter what mood Roger is in; Mark can’t seem to avoid pissing him off. Sometimes it’s worse when Roger starts out in a good mood. He is sick of catering to Roger’s mood, and maybe this is why he doesn’t just let this go.

Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus, Harry Potter, the Founders. This time the second link goes to LJ because I like the way it looks on the website better.

Co-written with [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan, so I'm not sure it counts as "mine" but whatever. It might not be the BEST story ever written, but it sure amuses the heck outta me. We blame [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz for poking us into LJ breakage and then we took the breakage and put it in a fic. In which the Founders are snarky friends who know far too much about each other and argue over old arguments. And a dragon sits on Salazar.

Meme the Second: Fic Titles

Even though I cannot find the actual meme now (oh, flist, you are large and full with active communities!), I wanted to play. The general idea was that I list out fic titles I've been wanting to use and you tell me what the fic should be about.

I can so get behind that, cause you never know when a bunny might strike. ;)

So, I have a lot of title ideas and why don't I use these?

It's a good question--and yes, I realize I have a very sad habit of yanking titles from song titles or lyrics or poems. =P Without further ado--the list:

Hazy Shade of Winter

Lesson Learned

Can't Get There From Here

Going Down To Nowhere

Mad Season

Come Undone

Crashed

Deep and Dark December

Beauty in the Breakdown

I'm sure I have others but I can't think and I've had this post open for like 3 or 4 hours now, so I'm just hitting "post" now.
