Today's [livejournal.com profile] fannish_5: Name your five favorite fictional kids.

So, I love kids. This is helpful when you, you know, teach elementary school. But so I decided to use pictures for this too, because these kids are too damn cute and awesome for mere words.

1. Micah Sanders, Heroes

Che Guevara led a revolution. This is a rebellion. So whose side are you on? And 'mine' is not an answer. )

2. Lian Harper, DC Comics

PENGUINS! )

3. Milagro Reyes, DC Comics

That's right baby girl. I'm the crazy one. )

4. Molly Walker,Heroes

'How did you sleep?' 'On my pillow.'  )

5. Lilo, Lilo and Stitch

This is your badness level. It's unusually high for someone your size. We have to fix that )

...Huh. Why do I not have a Micah icon? Clearly I need one.
lady_sarai: (Fort Williams + purple sky)
Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose because it looks fun!

1) Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.

2) NO CAPTIONS!!! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.

3) They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason.

4) You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.

Pictures! )

Okay, here's a thought--use one of those pics as a fic prompt, and give me a picture in return to use as a prompt! Impromptu ficlet exchange!
lady_sarai: (Fierce hug)
So, I know a few people on my flist are having a bad week. I know I am, and [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan and [livejournal.com profile] aradiachiba will probably appreciate something cute when they get back. So I was looking for cute pictures to reply to [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl's post with, and kind of found about a zillion, and then I thought that a lot of us could use the cute.

So, about a zillion cute pictures behind the cut. Beware cavities and baby animals. )
lady_sarai: (I am SO blogging this)
Home again! Had an absolutely fantastic, amazing, wonderful time with [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan. Even if she forced me to watch pre-selected episodes of Smallville. Damn it, I don't hate Lex. ;) We have been worrying about the weather, because June basically had rain all day every day. BUT--we went to Six Flags on Tuesday and it was the most GORGEOUS DAY. Totally beautiful! Sunshine-y and hoooooooot. We drank a loooot of water, and used sunscreen! We needed it! And it really wasn't too crowded or busy.

...Also we ran into a friend from high school, which was bizarre. (I say high school, but I was in kindergarten and first grade with her too, sooo it's a bit further than that.) Adding to the weirdness there, she's been living in England for a few years. SMALL WORLD.

Anyway--we may have taken pictures. They might be insanely awesome. And it might just be that we made the people who were dressed as Batman and Green Lantern very happy, because they were almost more excited about our picture taking than we were. We definitely filled out a positive comment card. And by "we" I mean Zoe. ;)

So tooons of fun was had. So much fun that we are both still tired two days later. And I wound up with terrible, horrible, no good, very bad blisters on the balls of my feet. RIGHT where you HAVE to put pressure to walk. I mean, they're massive. I did wind up poking and draining them last night, and that helped today but I'm still limping. And because of how painful it is to walk normally, I've been walking weirdly and it's making my ankles and shins hurt now. Sigh. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, though. I'm walking like an old lady, it's ridiculous. (...Keeping in mind that my 88-year-old grandmother never had to walk like this... :P)

In other news, tomorrow (today, huh) would have been my grandfather's 95th birthday. Which is kind of insane. 95. Wow. Bapap, I miss you. Has it really been seven years now? WOW. It also would have been my grandparents' 62nd wedding anniversary. (Yes, they were married on his birthday. My grandmother's advice to me was always "don't get married on a birthday." ;) Poor Moomoo. (Yes, that's what I called her. Mormor is Norwegian for mother's mother, and I could not say my "r"s.)) We are making lobster rolls and having macaroni salad to celebrate.

Aaaaand, I have nothing else to say except to go look at the awesome, awesome Six Flags pictures we took! The Flash came with us! You know you want to see!

Oh, and have a meme:

Ask any of the characters from any particular stories something you want to know, and I'll answer in character.

My fic is here.
lady_sarai: (A lobsterman's life is good)
So! It has been a fairly busy but productive weekend. Friday would have been my parents' 38th wedding anniversary, and Mom took the day off work. It also happened to be one of the only sunny days we've had all MONTH. (Seriously. Can count the sunny days in June on one hand.) So Mom and I took off and went out to Fort Williams (where Portland Head Light is. I love my lighthouses). We sat and read in the sun with the sea breeze and the ocean in view and it was very, very relaxing. Then we went out to eat. So Mom had a very nice anniversary, which was totally the point.

...Also, my brother has decided he is going to build a new front porch. We had a small one on the breezeway, but he kind of... tore it down. Using a crowbar and a chainsaw. But he hasn't bought the materials to build it yet, so... we kind of just have a four foot drop out the front door. But he says he's going to build it this week. We will see.

So, because of all the EPIC RAIN we've had this month, strawberry picking started later than usual--like, yesterday. Mom can't pick anymore, because of her arthritis. So I said I would. Um. Yeah.

I have pictures. Of the FIFTEEN POUNDS of berries I picked. And the million tons of jam. And pie! ...Also cats. )

And tomorrow I am off to [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan's for a few days, as we are going to SIX FLAGS, come rain or shine! ...We really do hope for sun, though.
lady_sarai: (Yatta!Snowman)
So, I promised pictures. It started raining on Thursday night and I was skeptical about the supposed ice storm, because it was warm for most of the day.

Yeeeah.

Woke up at 5 am on Friday when the power went out. Disabled the garage door to help Mom get off to work at 6; she works 20 minutes away, but didn't get to work until 7. At 8 I woke up again to a REALLY LOUD NOISE--the tree at the end of our driveway split and fell across the road. The fire department had to come and clear the road. We finally got power back late Friday night, but we had no cable or internet until this morning at 9 am.

I went out yesterday and took pictures of the ice; Katt said she wondered if Maine had turned into the Fortress of Solitude... She's not entirely off-base!

Ice, ice, and more ice! )

If I had a little too much fun with the camera, it's because there was nothing else to do?
lady_sarai: (Norway)
My mother, brother, aunt, grandmother and I flew to Oslo, Norway. June 23, 2007. I can't believe it's been a whole year.

A year ago today, not a one of us would have believed it if someone had told us my grandmother would be dead now. She might have, but we would not have. I miss her every single day, and some days are harder than others.

It's been seven months and it's still hard. We haven't watched the video of our trip and I don't know when I'll feel able to.

Anyway, my point is that I have a TON of pics and I never got around to doing a picspam of our trip. I'm finally okay with looking at them, even if I can't yet watch the videos, so I think the time has come for some picspams!

Starting on the 24th, when we landed at 10 am Oslo time. (4 am here.)

Oslo, Norway: June 24, 2007--Day 1 )

I may follow with another picspam of more personal pics--you know, with people. If you want to be on that filter (some of you have no choice ;)) let me know!
lady_sarai: (Cary Grant)
Oh, it's been a *long* weekend and today was long, too. =P We had the linoleum replaced with tile in the bathrooms, and it's *beautiful.* I inflict picspams on you, but I also give kitty pictures to make it better. ;)

Using Cary Grant icon as we watched The Bishop's Wife tonight and it might be the best Christmas movie ever. I loves it.

Befores and Afters and KITTIES!!! )

In other news, no one played in my meme yet and I have only 3 holiday fic requests. I will write you something if you request it! I promise!! :)
lady_sarai: (Cissie uses AIM)
Okay, really old meme, snagged from [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz (no, old as in AUGUST or something). But I didn't *have* a desk then and now I *do*!!!

The meme in 2 simple steps per person:
A. For you (the poster):
1. Take three photos of your desk area as it is, do not stop to tidy up. Inclusion of you at desk in the picture is optional.
2. Upload the photos onto imageshack, photobucket, flickr, imagehoop, or a similar site and post them and this text to your journal, with an explanation for anything significantly MISSING, if anything.

B. For them (the commentor/friend):
1. Ask a question about what's in any of the pictures and the poster has to answer it, within reason.
2. Do this meme yourself!

Cut to save your f-list formatting. )
lady_sarai: (Christmas ornaments)
Oh, am bored. We had a snowstorm today--complete with half the state shut down and schools closed. This means tomorrow I get to dig my car out of the snowbank before subbing in the afternoon. Yay.

In any case, I have pictures! Lookit!

Remember my insane to-do list from yesterday? This is how my cats helped. )

And today it snowed! Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! )

And then after baking today, I was going to take a nap, so I went to my bed and found... my cats.

And the kitties were nestled all snug in MY bed... )

This post is *so* not dial-up friendly.
lady_sarai: (Tim/Cissie: Hair ruffle! [YJ])
Did you think the Cissie picspammage was over? Ha! ;)

Last time, Cissie vanished into a pile of fanmail.

So where did she go? To help her friends play baseball.

As crazy as it sounds, Young Justice wound up on an alien planet, coerced into playing baseball to save it from an invading alien race.

Young Justice was awesome.

Cissie and baseball are not the best of friends, however. )

Previous picspams are here and here.
lady_sarai: (Cissie is not impressed)
As promised, more Cissie! ;)

Cissie goes to the Olympics, her mother saves the day and she gets a roommate... )

Next time, Cissie joins Young Justice as they play baseball with aliens to save the planet--and is jealous of Empress, and gets an agent.
lady_sarai: (Cissie is not impressed)
So! I am writing my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon fic about Cissie King-Jones, the former Arrowette, who is awesome and amazing and really, really fun to have living in my head.

And I realize that some of you--::cough::[livejournal.com profile] xenokattz[livejournal.com profile] scribophile::cough::--do not know who Cissie is! Now, I could easily *describe* her, and go on about how very cool she is, but...

I decided to let Cissie speak for herself. ;) What does this mean? PICSPAM. Or several.

(Because, yes, I totally have all of Young Justice on my hard drive, JOY! And honestly--I'm not so sad that Cissie is in comics-limbo, given what's happened to the *rest* of Young Justice these days. It hasn't been pretty.)

Anyway, so here is the first of what will probably be several picspams featuring Cissie.

Part of why I love Cissie is because she joins YJ in issue 4, and quits by issue 17--but continues to make regular appearances for the rest of the series, almost 40 issues after she quit. So, picspam 1 is dedicated to Cissie's career as Arrowette, short as it may seem.

Meet Arrowette. The superhero who dares to ruffle Robin's hair when he is in full Bat-sulk mode:

Please to be noting, those of you familiar with Cissie, that I do a significant amount of context and explaining for the benefit of those unfamiliar. If I've made any mistakes, feel free to point them out!

Also--so not dial-up friendly. Sorry.

Click to see Arrowette join Young Justice, yell at Superman and deal with her *mother.* )

Next time, Cissie goes to the Olympic Games in Australia, gets a roommate and is eaten by fanmail.

(I totally need some Cissie icons--better yet, some Tim/Cissie icons. :) I could make them myself, but begging is more fun. ;) Plus, photoshop keeps quitting on me when I am working. Not cool.)
