Does anyone know anything about scoliosis in cats? ...Or in people, for that matter...?

... in the meanwhile, can it be Thursday yet? ACK! End of the semester STRESS.... :-P

We're getting ANIMALS!!!!

A bit of family pet history because I can... )

Anyway, the point is, we had to put Lassie to sleep in my senior year of high school, in October of 2001. And Baloo, we had to put down last March (2004).

So, I have NEVER not had a pet... until this year.

It's been OVER a year. We're feeling highly deprived.

BUT!!!

I have tidings of news and great joy!!

We're getting a DOG! A border collie!! Which is perfect because we had shelties and those are herding dogs, so we know what to expect and how to train and keep her happy.

She's a year old, and her name is Kaina. Her owner can't keep her because he doesn't have the time to give her the attention she deserves... talk about your trail, though. Mom heard about it from her co-worker, who heard about her from her daughter-in-law, who works with the owner's neighbor. How funny is that.

We heard about her three weeks ago and said YES right off, but we never heard anything from him. He didn't really want to give her up, you see. So, we got our hopes WAY up and then they came crashing down when it seemed we would never hear anything. We kinda gave up.

In the meantime, my roommate's mom breeds cats. They have a munchkin cat that had three kittens. Normally they sell the kittens, but one of them has scoliosis. His spine is curved, so he is crooked. Steph asked if we would be interested in rescuing him, because they can't sell him and they can't keep him, as they have 8 cats, 2 dogs and a horse.

We said 'oo!' And then she showed us a picture and that was that.

So, Mom called Steph's mom today, and... we're getting a kitty!!!!

His name is Mozart, and they call him Mo, or MoMo. :D How cute is that? He's 7 weeks old, and on Monday he goes to the vet for his shots and we will see if his spine is going to curve much more.

The curvature might mean that he won't live long, but we feel like we just want to give him the best life we can, for as long as he lives. He is SO adorable.

So, I met Mom for dinner tonight, and we were talking about kitty-proofing the house, and her cell phone rang...

It was the man with the dog. Whom we have been waiting to hear from since April break began.

Long story short:

We pick up Kaina on Saturday, and bring the doggy home with us for good.

We meet Steph and her Mom the Saturday *after* (the 14th), and pick up Mozart to bring our kitty home for good.

We will have pets!! A dog and a cat!! I've never had a kitty before! I'm excited! And I've always wanted a border collie! I love the herding group...

Woo for pets! I am happy!

My aunt is planning on throwing a "Kitty-shower" for us, in that she is sending us lots of kitty stuff by mail. This amuses us.

Cut because this kitten is too cute for mortal eyes to gaze upon... Picture time!!! )

I am in love, and a happy duck. Sigh and squee. I love animals.
