So, wow, it's been a while. Now I am in Tonsberg, which is where my mother was born and my grandmother was born and raised--and where my grandfather moved as a little boy. So, homebase, I suppose.
We are staying in Hotell Borge, which is in Husoy, which is still in Tonsberg, I think.
Tonsberg is the oldest city in Norway, btw--founded in the 900s! We're going to go to slotsfjelle, which is the ruined remains of a Viking fortress--a tower on a hill. And on Friday we're going to a stavekjirke (stave church)--one of my grandmother's nephews works for the government, so he's going to let us go INSIDE, even. Wee! We will also go see the cabin my grandmother lived in during WWII.
anyway. the hotel we are staying at? Is sort of a resort for.. um... elderly people.
Kid you not. My brother and I are so out of place; even my mom and aunt are. It's very nice--if you don't think about the lack of refrigerators, televisions or anything electronic in the rooms. ;) Well, beyond lights.
One old man is... possibly a little senile, and he keeps talking to Ryan and I in Norwegian--which we don't understand--and giving us things, like rocks and empty cups and today--a hat. Then he proposed to my grandmother this evening.
Today was the family reunion, and I'm exhausted, but it was interesting.
I totally had more to say, but I ahave no brain cells left.
