Heroes mini-rant

...Seriously, I'm pissed, Heroes. WTF. Claire goes into a comic book store and the cashier says "You're a girl. We don't get many of you in here." And then is convinced that because she is a hot girl, someone is playing a trick on him. There was something about a lap dance involved, but I was too busy gaping to remember the exact quote.

...What the heck! This is not what I expect from you, show. I am very, very, very unhappy about that.

VERY. I have liked you! Fwah! Never mind that Sylar is evil and stupid again and apparently has a mini-me, and I hate that. Never mind that I hate what is happening with the Petrellis. I was okay with these things, because I had some faith that things would turn out.

But I am disappointed, show. Very disappointed.

Edit: Okay, some more thoughts. I know you are not always a great show where women are concerned. I have seen every episode, watched every season. You have many awesome women, who do awesome things.

...Well, you did. You've killed Niki/Jessica, and replaced her with Tracy--I give up on that. Angela Petrelli is awesome! ...Why is there not more of her? Claire and Sandra Bennet are awesome. But Mr. Bennett is stupid sometimes. Daphne--I'm not ready to believe what happened actually happened, and I'm not discussing it yet.

But erg. That is not something anyone would say in a comic book store. Not someone who works in one, at least not in any one that I have ever been in.

::le sigh::

That is just NOT OKAY. NOT OKAY AT ALL.

Maybe I'm not understanding but it doesn't sound like it's anti-feminist. It sounds like it's mocking the comics industry for being anti-feminist. Which is stupid and dated and the people who are involved in this should know better, but the but of the joke is the fanboys, not the women -- right?

I'm not actually sure. It surprised me, and the guy does come off like a jerk, so you may be right. But it's more what you said--that the people involved should know better; I think I expect more from them, which is clearly asking too much. :P

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think that is my problem--I did not expect to see/hear that. I think it's possible they were looking for a way to set up a close call with Noah and Claire, and went for the cheap laugh/stereotype. In any case, it disappointed me, whoever was being mocked.

Yeah, I get that. . .still, I mean, I've been in comic shops that obviously don't get a lot of girls in there. The stereotype does exist for a reason. But on the other hand, 'Heroes' could be trying to do something original rather than perpetuate that idea. I think it goes with their love/hate with the comics industry (probably more hate since Loeb got canned).

That does make sense. I guess I've been lucky--I've never had that feeling in a comic shop, but then, we don't have very many around here. I can think of two that are independently owned and one that is part of a chain, and those are the only ones I know of at all. (Not counting out of state ones--I've also been in an awesome one in Massachusetts.) In any case, I've never felt judged in one, or been talked down to--if anything, it's been assumed I know more than I actually do.

...Maybe I just look like a comic geek. ;)

I've actually been in a comic book store where something like that happened. Of course, this was also the store where the owner looked at porn behind the counter and could occasionally be heard ranting about the Jews. So that's really more the store's issue than anything else.

Pah. Bad Heroes. I'm offended on behalf of geekdom here. Stop making us look bad!

...Totally agree on Daphne. RAGE.

...Whoa. Of course, I've only been in a handful of comic stores--there aren't many around here, and really, I can only think of two that aren't part of a chain. But the people I've met in them have always been really nice and friendly, so it is annoying on *their* behalf too.

I know! ::sigh:: I think I expect more from the people in charge. Clearly a mistake.

...I am in denial about her. I think we did not see a body, therefore she will show up sometime later and SURPRISE! Speed healing powers! ...Maybe?

Every comic shop I've ever been in was just glad to have another customer. I'd be more likely to get comments like that from other customers, never from someone who actually worked there.

So, FAIL, Heroes. Comic shop owners and clerks all over the world should be up in arms for this.

I didn't get annoyed because Alex said something about how this was "getting me back for the birthday thing" before it went to the lapdance. So my mind went to Alex doing something for his friend, like sending a stripper or something, and figured the friend was hooking him up. I guess I made up a whole backstory? It just didn't seem completely out of place to me. But I could be way wrong.

But how awesome are Hiro and Ando? Especially Ando! With his powers! And being a hero! And I LOVE ANDO SO SO MUCH.
