So my grandmother cut her finger or it cracked or something happened to her thumb on New Year's and today she went to the hospital and they told her it might be cellulitis. Or gangrene.

::headdesk::

First: Doctors, shut up. Don't tell an 87 year old woman that she might have GANGRENE in her finger unless you KNOW it's gangrene, in which case, don't tell her it's cellulitis and that antibiotics will clear it up.

>_<

Second: My grandmother panics. She has a right to, she's 87. But then telling her to read the packet you send home that is DOOM AND GLOOM!! is not a wise idea.

I just spent two hours convincing her that "very serious if not treated" meant that it COULD get very serious IF NOT TREATED. Which, clearly, was what she was doing, in the hospital.

My grandmother is 87, but no one believes me when I tell them that. Ask [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan and [livejournal.com profile] aradiachiba. I have never seen her with gray hair. Seriously. She tore both rotator cuffs in her 70s and had major surgery on both shoulders. Last year, she tore her hamstring.

How did she do these things?

Playing tennis.

This week, her biggest concern is that her injured finger will mean she has to miss her two bridge clubs and won't be able to play tennis. She is the treasurer for the Women's Literary Union. She goes to the theater and orchestra ALL the time.

She has a more active social life than I do. >_<

But she also worries a lot more now than she used to, or she lets us see it more. So whenever something happens to her, she worries.

So I'm glad I could make her feel better, anyway. And it did look mighty unpleasant and she said it HURTS. =(

But now? I have to go clean before mom gets home from work. ::sigh::

I wanted to read, or write.
