lady_sarai: (WTF Jo)
Frustrated by a few things tonight.

1-My headache, which is growing into a possible migraine. Like the one that woke me at 2:30 am last night and kept me awake for over an hour. THAT was fun. I look forward to repeating that.

2-My film class professor LOSING my last 2 papers and insisting that it must be because I did not turn them in. OMGWTFBBQ. And because I've never had her, and she didn't know my name, and didn't BELIEVE I was me (our photos on the rosters were taken freshman year. Gosh, people CHANGE in 4 years?)... Irked. But I have them and will hand them to her and say "BLARGH!!!" But not really.

3-Steph. And Tina. And Mom. And the weather. Because I am sick, Mom mentioned the other night that I should come home on Thursday afternoon, so I can be at home and be taken care of and she would make me tea and I can see my kittens and this is SO tempting when you are sick. Plus, Mom totally *wants* me home. This I know. So I mention this idea to Steph, who says "don't GO! Stay here with meeeeee!" Just like that. She says "we'll have a quiet roommate night! We'll watch Rent!" >.< Then Tina says "No! Don't go! Stay here, we want you to stay!" Well, THANK YOU girls, for supporting the decision I HAVEN'T MADE YET. Nevermind that I feel like crap. Although less crappy tonight, thank GOD. And then today, Mom says "well, watch the weather, it looks icky." And sure enough! Snow/rain mix! Starting around 3! >.< When I have class until 2. And I don't know how I feel about this.

No, I do. Completely and utterly TORN. Because I don't want to upset Mom OR my friends, and either decision I make will upset someone. And Steph, dammit, is not ALLOWED to say "I didn't really mean it, I'm sorry for pressuring you. You should do what you want." Mom does this all the time. Do you THINK I don't know what the real meaning of that is? It's OMGDOWHATIWANTYOUTODO!!!! >.< Maybe I should just go to Mass and see Theanna instead. (And pleasepleaseplease know I'm joking, babe, as much as I would love to. Cause I might cry, in this mood.) Argh. Seriously, people.

I don't even know what I want to do, but it annoys me that I might not GET the choice, thanks to the weather. Is that rational? No.

4-[livejournal.com profile] minisinoo posted some Harry Potter thoughts on Ron/Hermione, and Harry/Hermione. And she seems to ship H/Hr. Which... no. Sorry. And I read most of the comments, but I don't see her changing her mind, or anyone really arguing it much. And I am feeling immensely sorry for Ron now.

I love Ron. I want to cuddle him now.

5- My fandom sucks and lies in burning wreckage. Poor, poor Rent.

Yeah, so.

Also, a question:

How much do you think perception of the whole Ron/Hermione/Harry triangle is/was affected by the movies?

I mean, people who read a good portion of the books before seeing the movies, do they ship one way and people who saw the movies first, or soon after reading just a few, do they ship another?

And the constant reference of HP as "children's" books in a certain tone... REALLY bothers me. Partly because I hope to WRITE "children's" (young adult, really) books. And because I've taken a course in this, and I KNOW a bias and prejudice exists against them in the publishing industry.

So, I enter TWO professions that face bias and are looked down upon by some. Teaching and children's books.

(Granted, they are marketed as children's books. But I have a former professor who made us spend Hermione-ish hours in the library looking up obscure things that were IN book 1; in fact, I doubt JKR spent as much time analyzing how many letters are in "Privet Drive" as we did. But that's beside the point. There's a reason these books appeal to so many people of so many ages.

And I TOTALLY ship Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione and I even yelled at LeeAnn in high school for suggesting Harry/Hermione. I DID. And this was PRE-OotP. Dude. That's right, I'm Old School. I even had to WAIT for PoA.)

ARGH.

And I have a HEADACHE that HURTS! ::whines::

On an upnote, I downloaded some very nice music. Anthony Rapp singing "Losing My Religion" at a book signing and Chris Daughtry's version of "Hemmorage" from last week's American Idol. Cause, you know what? I think I love him, bald-headed rocker he is.

KITTENS!!!

Because I can't sleep due to my migraine. Kitten pictures!

OMG Not with the Dial-up friendly... )

Right, so. I warned you. A bazillion kitten pictures. And two turkey pics. Heh. =D
lady_sarai: (HA! (laughing The))
Every one else is doing it. ;)

I've gotten some great music since I saw this in [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose's journal, so... Decided I may as well do my part and contribute to the music love!

Now, time for my Frankenstein meme.

1. A song that wakes you up in the morning.

Lately? It's Goodbye, Anthony Rapp.

2. A song you loved in high school.

Okay, because this song is here partly for sentimental reasons. So many high school memories...

Light My Candle, from OBC Rent.

Yeah, so, this was RIDICULOUSLY hard to choose. Because I think music was at the center of a LOT of what went on in high school, with my friends. But I will NEVER stop associating this song with being acted out during car rides in the station wagon and trips to Old Orchard Beach. And the cafeteria. And the library. And the halls... =P

And then I loved Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down. Totally just rediscovered this... Wee!

3. A song that mentions a dead celebrity.

I know it's been done, but... We Didn't Start the Fire, Billy Joel. Dude, it's Billy Joel.

4. A song you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your grandmother.

You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want When You're Making Love, from Avenue Q. Yeah. 'Nuff said.

5. A song that MTV will never play in a million, billion years.

Minuet, Idina Menzel.

Sadly, it won't be mainstream. But gosh, it's such a gorgeous song.

6. A song with a title that ends in y.

Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy, Big and Rich.

It ends with Y, what? ;)

7. A song that makes you crave something.

Patches Clarence Carter.

It's a weird thing. This song makes me cry. It reminds me of my Dad, because my clearest memory of this song is sitting in the car in Smiling Hill Farm's parking lot, eating ice cream and telling him to turn the car back on because I loved this song and crying because he had turned the engine off in the middle of the song. =P Random, but true, so it makes me want ice cream and my daddy. Or at least a hug.

8. A cover song that you think is better than the original.

Sway, Michael Buble. I adore this song, anyway, but I love his version.

9. The original of #8.

Sway, Dean Martin.

You HAVE to love Dean Martin, but there's a more dramatic feel to Michael Buble's. ::shrug:: Also, not sure if this is THE original, but it's MY original. ;)

10. A song that reminds you of a fandom OTP.

Downfall, Matchbox 20.

I wonder how you sleep
I wonder what you think of me
If I could go back
Would you have ever been with me
I want you to be uneased
I want you to remember
I want you to believe in me
I want you on my side
Come on
And lay it down
I've always been with you
Here and now
Give all that's within you
Be my savior
And I'll be your downfall

Not that I can name that OTP right now, but it's a doomed one. It SHOULD be an OTP song. ;) Maybe Mark/Maureen or Hufflepuff/Slytherin. Or something. Something tragic. Actually, suggest an OTP for that! ::shrug::

11. You have been caught mouthing the lyrics to this song.

Lately, Losing My Religion, REM... and Hemorrage, Fuel. Although, also listen to Chris Daughtry's version. Cause I ADORE what he does with it.

But totally Schadenfreude! Avenue Q! Because, yeah, I am that cynical at times. It's nice to belt that.

12. A song that will always make you think of a movie.

Everything I Do (I Do It For You), Bryan Adams. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, yo. Dude, I love Robin Hood. And this SONG!!!

13. A song that should totally have fic written about it.

Room to Breathe, Anthony Rapp.

I still take you to bed, but it's the you I face instead
Where I use every word I never said to crack you open
There was barely room to breathe
Getting the skeptic to believe
That the goal wasn't to leave one of us broken
If it's true nothing gets close to you for fear of melting down
Then I've become the chosen one, an example for the crowd

Your star is due for shooting and I'll be watching the night sky
In hopes by then what binds us has come untied

I'm the tune of a lesser band
Sea legs on dry land
Thinking how you forfeited your hand to keep us from winning
I watch them orbiting around you now, just like you showed them how
And you reach out like the hand of God--a tap will keep them spinning
If it's true they flock to you without your shepards call
For a change just let them range and see how far you fall

Your star is due for shooting and I'll be watching the night sky
In hopes that soon what binds has will come untied

Can I take it back? Can I take it back now?

It's what the loss of our friends brings
It's in the way you held my strings
It's now all the little things I can't help but doubt
Sometimes I wish I'd never known just how brilliantly you shown
Right before you threw the stone to cast me out.

It would be fairly heartbreaking, but guh.

14. A song you wish they'd play in elevators.

Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen. It's QUEEN, yo!

Also, Torn, Natalie Imbruglia. It's catchy!

15. You'll stop listening to this song when they pry your MP3 player out of your cold, dead hands.

Ordinary Men Abound, Adam Pascal. Dunno why, but it's consistantly the most played song in my iTunes by leaps and bounds. It's just pretty.

(And that's that. But I'd really like to see [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan, [livejournal.com profile] arnica and [livejournal.com profile] aradiachiba do this. ;) (I'd especially like to see your High School choices. THAT was hard!)

Wonk!

So, Steph and I had a roommate night, which became a roommate night that degenerated into a Mark and Roger or Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp night that eventually wound up focusing on TEH SEX which is Adam Pascal's voice.

There is a "Thing" (the capital T is highly important) that happens to his voice when he's belting. I called it, for lack of a better term, "wonky." And Steph picked it up. And we wound up saying things like...

-I love it when his voice gets all wonky. (This probably being where it all started.)
-Listen, it's getting wonky again.
-He's wonking!
-Oh, I love his wonk!
-(Steph:) WONK IT!!

....Yeah.

So.

WONK (noun): A term used to describe That Thing Adam Pascal's voice does which makes knees go weak and causes heart palpitations and shortness of breath.

::cough::

Yes, I AM entirely random tonight.

Also, it was SO fun talking about Rent with Steph tonight because she's interested in the minute fandom-type details that normal people AREN'T interested in.

And she said-of her own free will, no goading from me-that she thought Mark's character was cheated by cutting "Halloween" and "Goodbye Love." THANK YOU.

::cough:: Done now.

But yeah, we definitely squealed like little pre-adolescent girls tonight. It was a good roommate night.

Also, REALLY would like someone to write fics for me using the OTP song and the Anthony Rapp song I used in my Frankenstein mix. I think, especially in the latter, it would be interesting to see what people might come up with.

I had a point with this post, but that's entirely gone now.

It is snowing outside, but the window is OPEN and it is stifling in our room. Gotta love dorm life.

And I do know that "wonky" does have a meaning in and of itself with no attachment to Adam Pascal. It was just the only work I could find for that raspy... WONKY thing that happens sometimes when he sings. And Steph didn't know it was a real word until I told her, at which point she said "you really SHOULD be on Jeopardy." And I refrained from telling her my knowledge came from the HP fandom. ;)
