Summary: Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and Queen Industries are all vying to win a high-stakes business deal and are sending in their best representatives--Tim Drake, Conner Luthor and Cissie King-Jones. While their fathers can hardly stand each other, they have managed to become friends outside the boardroom. The week before they are to face off for the deal, Wayne Enterprises and Queen Industries are broken into by someone dressed as Arrowette. When Conner knows too many details about Cissie's business proposal, Tim and Cissie begin to wonder if he isn't following in his father's footsteps after all. But that still doesn't explain who Arrowette is or why someone would frame Cissie.
EPILOGUE
Cissie hesitated before knocking on the door to Tim's apartment. She hadn't done this before, just showing up in Gotham with no reason other than visiting Tim. She had come up with an excuse on the plane trip over, but now she couldn't remember it. Mostly, she just didn't feel like needing to lie or have a reason to see him.
Which was kind of the whole point of this trip, if she could ever work up the nerve to actually knock. She took a deep breath and gave herself the count of ten before making herself just do it.
Tim opened the door with a slight frown on his face that cleared the moment he saw her. "Cissie!" he said, smiling. "Hi! I didn't know you were in town."
She couldn't help grinning when she saw him. "I thought I'd surprise you," she said, stepping in to give him a hug. That much was true.
He hugged her back, swinging her into the apartment and shutting the door behind them with his foot. "To what do I owe the honor?"
She laughed as he swung her around, and shrugged, keeping her arms hooked around his neck. "I was in town." To see him, but she wasn't sure she was ready to have that talk. Right now she just wanted to kiss him, so she did.
"I like it when you're in town," he said, pulling back to smile at her. "How are things back home?"
Cissie's smile widened and she took his hands, drawing him over so they could sit on the couch while they talked. "Better," she said, happily. "Mia's really trying. She's been letting me help her with her archery, and she actually spent last weekend with me at my place." She shrugged. "I mean, it's not perfect by any means--we're not suddenly best friends or anything, but... It's better."
"I'm glad. I bet it was nice to have a little girl time?"
"Mmhm," she agreed, leaning against him. "You know, I think that's the first time we've had girl time."
"I don't think I've ever had girl time," he said, giving her a mournful look.
She bit back a grin and pat his hand sympathetically. "Poor Tim. Do you want to paint toenails and watch chick flicks with me?"
"...Do chick flicks include any of the Die Hard movies?" he asked hopefully.
She laughed, lacing her fingers through his. "Sorry, no. Try something more along the lines of Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman."
He made a thoughtful noise. "Hm. For you? I'd make the sacrifice."
She pulled his arm around her shoulder, smiling into it. "You're sweet. Do you and your brothers ever have movie nights?"
"Occasionally. Dick's usually in charge of them. He mostly gets along with the rest of us."
Cissie laughed a little. "Mostly. Any new and exciting stories about your brothers, by the way? It's been a while since I've heard any."
He bit down on a laugh. "You haven't heard? It's been in all the papers. Damian's been suspended from school for starting an underground fight club."
She twisted to look at him, eyebrows shooting up. "Wait, seriously? A fight club?"
"Uh huh." He shook his head a little. "Bruce... pretty much hit the ceiling. Damian's response was that the first rule of fight club is: ‘you don't talk about fight club.'"
She groaned, laughing. "Oh, man. He must be in a world of trouble. Is he back home?"
"Yes. And apparently not allowed to watch movies with Jason anymore."
"How am I not surprised that Jason was involved somehow?"
"The same reason no one is surprised when the sun rises in the east, maybe?" he offered.
Cissie smiled, settling back against him again and pulling his arm around her. "Those two are a dangerous pair, that's for sure."
"Mm," he agreed. "So what are you up to in Gotham? Any corporate takeovers I should be aware of?"
She laced her fingers through his, giving a quiet laugh. "No. Your job is safe for now."
"Good. I was worried. So--?"
She didn't answer at first, thinking of the excuse she had created on the plane trip over. She finally took a deep breath and shrugged. "I just... wanted to see you," she admitted.
He pulled her closer in a hug. "I'm glad. I like seeing you." He rested his chin against the top of her head. "We don't do this very often."
She relaxed in his arms a little, vaguely relieved that he was taking things well so far. "I like seeing you too. And no, we don't." She paused. "But... maybe we should. Do this more often, I mean."
"I don't think I'd be opposed to that." He paused. "You mean--without the work excuses?"
Cissie nodded slowly, pulling away to turn around and look at him. "Yeah." She bit her lip, hesitating before elaborating. "I've been thinking about what Conner kept saying. All that stuff about us acting like we're dating."
"Oh?" He gave her a thoughtful look. "And what conclusions have you drawn?"
She smiled a little at his word choice and took a deep breath. "I think... he has a point. And that--if you were doing the things we do with someone else, I... wouldn't really like it."
He grimaced slightly. "Um. Likewise, I think. I know we never said anything about exclusivity, but..."
She gave a tiny smile. "I know. That's... kind of what I'm thinking." She reached for his hand, lacing their fingers together. "I think Conner's right, and we're maybe being a little silly about this."
"...It's possible," he said, smiling slightly. "Though--you should know, I have it on excellent authority that I'm honestly not a very good boyfriend."
She squeezed his hand, smiling back. "I don't believe it. But I've been told I'm not very good at the girlfriend thing either, so maybe that will work in our favor."
"Maybe it will," he agreed with a quiet laugh. "Though I think you're probably a fine girlfriend."
"Multiple sources say that I'm a little bit of a workaholic. ...Or a lot."
"...It's possible that I've heard the same. I'm also... a little forgetful. I'm pretty sure that if Tam didn't run my life, it'd be a disaster."
Cissie laughed. "So I've heard. I think we'll manage. ...We have managed so far. And I think I'd like not having to make up a reason to call or visit you."
He gave her an abashed look. "Yeah... I kind of did that, too."
She blinked in surprise, grinning slowly. "Really?"
"...Yes," he admitted, smiling back. "I'd apologize, but I think that since we were both doing the same thing, you'll probably let it slide."
"Probably," she agreed. "...Does this mean we are dating, then?"
"Yes? I mean--I hope--I would like to. If you want."
Cissie laughed again, breaking into a huge smile. "I want. I do. That's--actually the real reason I came to see you."
"It's a good reason." He tugged her toward him. "So, if I remember correctly, people who are dating are allowed to kiss each other... basically wherever it's appropriate. I'm thinking that the couch in my apartment constitutes an appropriate place."
She giggled, letting him pull her in, wrapping her arms around him. "You're right. I hear it's a perk of this whole dating business. And I think the couch in your apartment is the perfect place," she agreed, leaning in to really kiss him.
He smiled at her. "I think I could get used to this."
"Me too," she said with a laugh. "Remind me to send Conner a thank you card. And maybe a gift."
"I'll do that, but--later." He lay back, pulling her along with him. "Right now? I'd rather have some fun with this dating thing."
Cissie grinned, pressing a kiss to his jawline. "Mm. I like the way you think. What did you have in mind?"
He hummed, tipping back his head a little. "Oh. Lots of things--starting here, and concluding in the bedroom. I think this is an excellent start. I'm not going to be verbal much longer."
"I am okay with that."
