So, today is my birthday! =D

(As if I hadn't been bouncing around broadcasting that all week... =P Oops.)

Anyway, when I finally made it to the computer this morning, I had birthday messages waiting for me on AIM from [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan, [livejournal.com profile] aradiachiba and [livejournal.com profile] arnica (who also wrote me a story!), then [livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 had posted a birthday message on her LJ and later [livejournal.com profile] author_by_night wished me happy birthday, too. I feel very loved and I thank all of you!! =D

Came home tonight and my friend Tina? Had IMed me while I was gone. >_<

Now, my away message was "It's my birthday!!! =D" because I'm a happy dork who's a bit birthday nuts (it runs in the family, apparently).

I get this:

Tina: hey sara!
My away message: It's my birthday!!! =D
Tina: you never im me back and i called you too, what's going on????

...

That's it. She signed off ten minutes later.

Now, as to the first: I haven't IMed her back because she hasn't been online when she's IMed me... the ONCE this summer, when she IMed me at 10 am when I had been at work since 7:30. I haven't seen her online all summer.

Anyone who tries to stay in contact with me on IM knows I'm not glued to my computer, as strange as that may seem. Also, been working early and going to sleep early. Makes for a strange online schedule.

As to the phone call, I don't know when she called me. I haven't gotten any voice mails from her.

And finally, hello?

I've bought her presents and gone out of my way to wish her happy birthday for the last four years.

Excuse me if I grumble. And like I'm so surprised, really, because it's the Tina Show and it's All About Her. >_< I should be used to this. UGH!

Also, talked to my roommate last weekend and SHE hadn't heard from Tina all summer, either. It's not just that I've been a bitch and not communicating. She probably wants to complain about the job search, or brag that she has a job, or talk about the boyfriend she met in May and was spending weekends with by June 1st. Who is probably the reason we haven't heard from her all summer.

Hmph.

But! I will not let this upset my birthday. No. Ariel used every color AIM has to write my birthday message this morning. And Arnica wrote me a story!!! =D

I do have good friends. I am just very upset by Tina right now.

But! Onto happier things.

My mother tried to get everyone to write me letters reflecting on me and their relationships with me, and she gave me what she'd managed to get together, which meant that I got letters from her, my brother and our dad's cousin.

Oh, man. Those meant so much. Mom's made me cry, especially because she mentioned my dad and grandfather, and because it's MOM and we're terribly close.

And Paulie's was nice, too, because she's like an aunt to me.

But my brother's?

Oh my goodness. I can't read it without crying. We've had rough spots and I've had moments where I think I don't even LIKE him, but man, he done good. He wrote all kinds of awesome things and it meant more than any present I got today.

Although, on that note... My grandmother gave me a necklace she got from her aunt for her confirmation 70 years ago. It is highly awesome.

Then we sat around and talked and shared family stories. =D

Anyone who knows or has met my grandmother should not be surprised to hear that she went to Finishing School after high school. =D

Finishing School.

She was telling me all about the balls they had, and actually used terms like "chiffon" and "ball gown" and "I had sent for my evening gown" and told us about the single men who came to all the balls--the veterinarian, dentist and doctor. And that after dinner, they could go for walks, but the teachers had to go with them and there was no associating with men except at balls or with supervision.

Also, one of her nephews was apparently the equivilant of a mayor in Lillehammer, where the Olympics were held. But way before then.

It was so neat, listening to her talk about how one of her friends was so in love with the doctor that she pretended to faint at a ball. Looking at old pictures, I've always thought that she and my grandfather looked like they could have stepped out of a movie, and listening tonight? Man. It was something.

Of course, she lived in Norway until her late thirties. So all this happened in another country, and another century, now.

It's just fun to picture my grandmother in a ball gown, dancing around in a ballroom as big as her house, sometime in the 1920s, in a small town in the middle of Norway.

=D

I signed up for the HP [livejournal.com profile] queenathon. O_O I was seduced by the Queen music! Not my fault! But... dude, I got an awesome song. =D (It always makes me think Mighty Ducks, but that's beyond the point.) Now I'd *really* better write my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon story!

I have had a very nice birthday, and I'm irked at Tina for ruining the lovely warm and fuzzy feeling I was having, but. She's not the most important thing in my life. Like [livejournal.com profile] arnica said earlier, I'm just too soft-hearted for my own good. Ah, well. My aunt called to play "Happy Birthday" on her piano for me. =D Private piano concerto all the way from San Diego to Maine.

Happy birthday, m'dear. :-) There's a new Cedric chapter. ;> (Kinda as with Twiller a few chapters back, I put it up today with your birthday in mind.)

Awww, thank you! :) I saw that and thought "yay! New chapter on my birthday!"

I promise I wasn't fishing for birthday wishes, although it sort of looks that way... =P Ah well. They're nice to get anyway! ;)

EEE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I'm so sorry I missed 'talking' to you, but I've been in Pennsylvania since Friday for my cousin's wedding (which, funnily enough, was yesterday!).

Tina? Is not important. Not at all. In fact, she doesn't even exist at the moment.

Just got home, because Italian weddings are never-ending parties for our family (Seriously, a ton of people pulled all-nighters last night, and they had an open bar for the reception - with several dozen college kids. Watching the drunken dancing was highly entertaining, however. I have quite a few good stories now! =D) so I'm about to pass out, but I'll write up an entry tomorrow and we can talk.

Sawyer & I are glad you had such a nice birthday. ♥

Oooh, yeah, I thought you said something about that wedding--or rather, your family. ;)

You do make me smile! =D Thank you.

I think I'd love to witness an Italian wedding, they sound so fun!

And I'm glad you're back! =D

Well, my mother came from the typical Italian family - nine kids, and they're all married with kids (and some grandchildren). I'm one of the younger cousins, because my mom was third youngest and she waited quite a while before having me, but there are HUGE age gaps between the cousins (two are in their late 40's, and the youngest is 5).

Anyway, almost everyone is loud & outgoing & rather insane when they're put together. Add alcohol and you've got disaster, but it's a very fun disaster. But we only smashed two glasses this time (again, drunken college students trying to dance and hold their beer glass at the same time) so we came out pretty good. =)
