Horridly late, I know. But whatever. I haven't done a Frankenmix since September and this CLEARLY needed to be remedied.

So, I present my Ideal Romantic Comedy Soundtrack.

EtA: [livejournal.com profile] scribophile is a bad influence. Instead of writing more gay sex, I made a zip file of my Frankenmix. It's here, if you'd like. :) NOW for the writing. Really.

1. Opening Credits:

An Old Fashioned Love Song, Three Dog Night

Just an old fashioned love song
Playing on the radio
And wrapped around the music
Is the sound of someone promising they'll never go
You swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on
No point in bringing it back
Cause it's never truly gone.
Just an old fashioned love song,
One I'm sure they wrote for you and me.
Just an old fashioned love song,
Coming down in three part harmony.

That's an awfully good title, isn't it? Huh. And the lyrics are nicely ambiguous as to whether or not the couple has broken up or defied the odds to stay together. ;)

2. Introduction of the Kickass, Yet Lonely Heroine:

Brandy, Three Dog Night

Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor's story.
She could see the ocean fall and rise;
She saw it's raging glory.
But he had always told the truth,
Lord, he was an honest man.
And Brandy does her best to understand.

At night, when the bars close down,
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man who's not around.
She still can hear him say:
She hears him say, "Brandy, you're a fine girl.
What a good wife you would be.
But my life, my love and my lady
Is the sea."

(Mainly because I've loved this song since I was TINY and it's awesomeness incarnate.)

Our heroine is kick-ass, yes indeed. And lonely. She's loved before and she doesn't think she'll love again, but she has no idea what's coming around the corner.

3. Introduction of the Sensitive, Yet Manly Hero:

Roll To Me, Del Amitri

And I don't think I ever seen a soul so in despair,
So if you want to talk, then I've three guess who will be there.
So don't try to deny, pretty baby
You've been down so long, you can hardly see.
When the engines stall and it won't stop raining, baby,
It's the right time
To roll to me.

And I don't think I have ever seen a soul so in despair,
So if you want to talk then I've three guesses who will be there.
So look around your world pretty baby,
Is it everything you hoped it would be?
The wrong guy, the wrong situation.
The right time
To roll to me.

Um. Our hero is a bit of a ladies' man. ;) And yet, somewhere deep down, is that sensitive guy who will dance with his step-sister at her prom when her boyfriend is a jerk.

That is totally not what I think of when I hear this song, no, thankyouverymuch Second Noah. (Curse you, James Marsden, except not, for you are pretty.)

4. Our Heroes Meet:

Fur Elise, Beethoven

Because it's some of the most beautiful music there is.

5. Our Heroes Go On a Wacky First Date:

Endangered Love, Silly Songs With Larry

Please don't cry Barbara.
You're a nice manatee,
You've been so good to me.
But I must go into the world
And do noble things for the good of all,
And you can't come because
You don't speak French.
Au revoir!

Barbara Manatee, (Manatee, Manatee)
You are the one for me. (One for me, one for me)
I'll take you to the ball (to the ball, to the ball).
I hope you're not to tall (We might have trouble dancing.)

Dude. It's Barbara Manatee. Picture him teaching her to tango using this song, and how can it get any wackier? (Or sweeter?) :)

6. Our Heroes Deconstruct Each Other With Their Respective Best Friends

Find Me Somebody To Love, Queen

Do we really need the lyrics?

Because no movie soundtrack is complete without some Queen. Because I say so.

7. Our Heroes Have a Significantly Better Second Date:

You Are My Kind, Santana and Seal

I know that someday
You won't remember
The way that this moment feels to you.
Don't let it go.
Don't turn your back on what you think you know-
You never know.
Don't leave it alone,
Cause I need you
To cling to.
Cause you are my kind.
You're all that I want,
Here in this life,
Until we are gone.
Our breath and our skin,
Our hearts and our minds,
they're one and the same.
You are my kind...

...My love and my life,
My heart and my soul,
I need you tonight.
Your love makes me whole.
And it's all I can stand,
Until you come home.
I need you tonight,
Cause you are my kind.

A date involving Santana music rocks by it's very definition. Adding Seal is the Kiss of Fate.

8. The Significant Moment in Which Our Heroes Fall in Love (montage)

Songbird, Eva Cassidy

For you, there'll be no crying.
For you, the sun will be shining.
Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's all right.
I know it's right.
And the songbirds keep singing like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before.

To you, I would give the world.
To you, I'd never be cold.
Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's all right.
I know it's right.
And the songbirds keep singing like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before.

This song melts me Every. Single. Time. This may or may not be my attempt to reclaim this song from the heartbreak it accompanies in Love Actually.

9. Our Heroes Make Love for the First Time:

My Confession, Josh Groban

You are the air that I breathe.
You're the ground beneath my feet.
When did I start believing?
'Cause I feel myself surrender each time I see your face.
I am staggered by your beauty, your unassuming grace.
And I feel my heart falling into place.
I can't hide it, now hear my confession.

This has nothing to do with the fact that all Josh Groban's songs sound ridiculously sexy to me. No. Ahem.

Guh.

10. The Tragic Misunderstanding and Breakup:

Foolish Games, Jewel

You stood in my doorway,
With nothing to say
Besides some comment on the weather.
Well, in case you failed to notice,
In case you failed to see,
This is my heart, bleeding before you.
This is me, down on my knees.
These foolish games
Are tearing me apart.
And your thoughtless words are
Breaking my heart.

He's a foolish, foolish man and she's quick to assume the worst. It doesn't end well.

11. The Montage of Attempting to Move On and Failing Horribly:

Boston, Augustana

You don't know me
And you don't even care.
You don't know me
And you don't wear my chains.
She said, "I think I'll go to Boston.
I think I'll start a new life.
I think I'll start over
Where no one knows my name."

Remember the part where she was hurt before? Yeah, she's had enough of that seaside town with its heart-breakers. Nothing says moving on like actually moving on.

12. The Montage of Missing Each Other:

I Think About You, Bryan Adams

There's only one thing that I wanna do
And that's think about you.
I think about you
When I can't get no rest.
I think about you
And there ain't no one else.
It's all I can do.
I can't help myself,
Yeah, I think about you.

Obviously they're both miserable.

13. The Chance Meeting:

The Difference, Matchbox 20

Every word you never said
Echoes down your empty hallway
And everything that was your world
Just came down.

Day breaking on the boulevard,
Feel the sun warming up your secondhand heart.
Light swimming right across your face
And you think maybe someday, yeah,
Maybe someday.
For all you know
Yeah, this could be
The difference between what you need
And what you want.

And they still love each other, but it's not going to be easy.

14. The Reconciliation:

Now I Know, Anthony Rapp

After all this time you've probably felt safer on your own.
But I was never better off alone.
You probably felt like I'd forgotten you,
Probably thought that I couldn't see you out of the corner of my eye.

And now I know
I should have never let you go.
And now I know
I've always loved you.
And you are so much more than I deserve.
I want you to know
that now I know.

Squee! Sappiness and happy-ever-after.

15. Closing Credits

I'm With You, Adam Pascal

Spinning and spinning,
A flick of a wrist and a smile.
And in the morning so early,
Deep conversations are spoken in tongues by sunlight.
Tonight, you can dream you're a star,
You can walk on the clouds and float to the ground
And I'm with you.

Because Adam Pascal's voice is made of sex this song is incredibly romantic.

Bonus:

Crashed, Daughtry

Somehow I couldn't stop myself.
I just wanted to know how it felt.
Too strong, I couldn't hold on.
And I'm just trying to make some sense
Out of why and how this happened.
Where we're headed there's just no knowing.

And then I crashed into you
And I went up in flames.
Could have been the death of me
But then you breathed your breath in me.
And then I crashed into you
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.

I love this song SO MUCH. Just saying. And there's usually more than one song in the credits, right?

Maybe I will upload these at some point, or a zip file, but not tonight.

And, seriously, I made a major, major, MAJOR mistake yesterday by finishing Twilight and then, when my internet was down, starting New Moon. Which so distressed me that I then freaked and did something I HATE doing, which is SKIM so I could read a quickly as possible and make sure everything turned out right in the end. Because I was furious and upset and OMG. Can nothing go smoothly? I mean, I never loved Romeo and Juliet because I got impatient with them and their miscommunication and was not as emotionally invested in their love story as I am in Edward and Bella's. So. I cheated and now will have to re-read because I am not sure I remember the whole middle section at ALL. I will make a post sometime when I've reread both these books. (Also, again I say, Edward. I ♥ you, you melodramatic drama queen. Or king. Whatever.)

And now I am all flaily and I CRIED (very seriously) and dammit. I love Edward and it's not fair. I will NOT get sucked in and obsessive about these books right now. February, maybe. Not NOW, when I've been doing so well with my Bruce/Richard drama.

This is seriously causing flailing on my part because Bruce and Richard are not a) meant to be together forever, omgtheirloveissoconfoundedlyperfect!. No, it's more like omgtheirloveissotoxic!whatareyoutwodoingtoeachother?! And b) neither of them are vampires.

Please don't make my brain hurt by suggesting that the latter is possible. I know Bruce is Batman, but really.

Maybe it will help if I go reread that sex scene I wrote.

ETA: Tread carefully in the comments; some not-terribly-specific-but-potentially-spoileriffic discussion of Twilight and New Moon happening there. Mostly, it's fangirlish squealing. But still. Walk with care.
