Oh, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, how I love you! ♥ Every year I seem to spazz when I am writing my fic, and think 'I should not do this again,' but then I get my INSANELY AWESOME gifts and I realize I didn't write complete crap and I actually like it, and my recipient likes what I wrote and I remember that Yuletide is simply made of win.

I didn't give anyone the chance to guess what I wrote for Yuletide or [livejournal.com profile] jbbs, mostly because I didn't think anyone would guess Yuletide, and [livejournal.com profile] jbbs had us written ALL OVER IT. I never know how to start guessing other people's Yuletide fics, either, since the options are just so VAST.

This year, I wrote for Robin McKinley's Outlaws of Sherwood, which was the second Robin McKinley book I ever read (after Beauty), back in 1997. Yes, 1997. I was in seventh grade and I have been in love with her writing ever since. I have long had an obsession with the Robin Hood myth, and this is possibly my favorite version--so I had massive spazz and flail about writing this. (No, really. I even wrote a research paper on the subject during senior year of college. And had FUN writing it.)

([livejournal.com profile] xenokattz and [livejournal.com profile] zoe_chan are probably surprised; I had been thinking of attempting to write something for Sunshine, since my recipient loves it so much and I had not read it before--but I hadn't read it before, and I didn't finish it in time. And then Marian popped into my head, started talking and would not shut up.)

So--I wrote Man and Legend, which is Marian's POV before she goes to Nottingham Fair in Robin's place.

Now. I have ficlet requests to play with! (I will take more! Bonus points for anyone who can find me an excuse to write something involving Cissie and Roy. She keeps telling me he takes her to his apartment--not like THAT!--but won't tell me WHY.)

Robin Hood

I made what might be a highly foolish mistake and put Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on tv.

...

First, an observation: Any movie with Morgan Freeman in it is immediately made better. The best thing about any movie with Morgan Freeman in it is automatically Morgan Freeman. "No man controls my destiny. Especially not ones who attack downwind and stink of garlic."

Second, I may well have done too much research on Robin Hood to fully enjoy this movie the way I used to.

This saddens me.

...But it's still Robin Hood.

Also, Alan Rickman at THIS age (and in this role) is precisely how I have always imagined Snape.

Well, just because.

Mind you, this is NOT as good as I would like it to be. We had to discuss certain things in our presentation and paper, and that's why it doesn't have more on things like the changing legend and whatnot.

We had to include these specific elements in our talk/paper:

-summary or explanation of topic(s)
-general impact topic has had on England/English literature/culture
-one or two specific aspects of the topic
-brief summary of sources of criticism
-connection/reference to one or two texts on our syllabus (this was somewhat difficult and I'm not sure I was terribly successful)

And we had 3/4 pages to do this in. My paper is 5. And I don't feel it's complete enough. But anyway...

Citations in MLA format. Fun. =P (I don't have page numbers for my e-book source or the website, and hoping that's not going to get me in trouble...)

I do not think that this is my best paper, by ANY means, and it drives me a bit nuts because there was so much MORE I would have included and I wish I had been given longer to research. BUT, it's interesting stuff.

At least, it is if you're remotely interested. Heh.

Yeah, click if you want to read my english paper. Don't blame you if you don't, but... I'm just that much of a geek that it would interest ME. )

If anyone's interested, I have "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," "The Ballad of John and Yoko," "American Pie," and a version of "Tam Lin" (I think) on my computer. :) "Wreck" is a favorite of mine, actually.

Yeah, dunno why I decided to post this. Except maybe to use my new Robin Hood icon! =D

Now, off to figure out why my mood theme isn't working right. Hmm.

Also, yes! I am adoring my paid account! I wish you would tell me who you are! :) But anyway, if there is anything you'd like written or made, let me know! Really!!!!
